No doubt pertubrations here and there will happen but the trend is very, very strong and it is fueled by huge macroeconomic factors which no one can turn around in any decent time frame. It's your French book writ large in every respect, from the mania to the spinning of justifications, to the corruption and the loosening of morals, the whole bleeding lot, including the farcical "stock jobbers" White described so well who are now wearing pinstripes and doing God's work.
