I think there are a couple of reasons OEM companies would like BD.

1. Some people don't want to spend the money for a drive they feel is bigger than they need. Kinda like in cars, why sell a Escort when it takes a customer away from possibly buying a Thunderbird.

2. Not knowing the manufacturing costs or markup on hard-drives, it is possible that they make more money on smaller drives. You have to remember that the expenses for equipment have already been paid on the smaller drives. New bigger drives mean newer and better equipment. I.E. Money..

3. With the way program sizes have increased, it is likely that somebody that purchases a smaller hard-drive will be back for another one sooner than if they bought a larger drive.

Case in point for #3 is the fact that I have 3 hard-drives in my computer.

Jimily,

Im not sure why you think BD would only be used with "cheaper units". The Mfg could bundle it with any size drive they want.

It's not for allowing them to use a cheaper unit. It's so the customer will be a bit less intimidated by the thought of buying an *additional* unit.

I don't personally envision BD being packaged with new computers. I envision it being packaged with new hard drives in much the same way DiskManager currently is.
