Are animals equal to humans? Of course not, but they deserve not to suffer and receive barbaric treatment from humans.

I am not against the consumption of animals for food, provided that they are treated well until they are humanely slaughtered, but I am opposed to animals experiencing needless suffering and abuse. We (humans) should be better than that.

I don't like the thought of a cow hooked up to a milking machine in a small chute for her entire life, 24 hours a day, or chickens confined to a cage not large enough to turn around in and left to lay eggs until they die. If I could stop those horrific practices, I would.

I am also opposed to animals used for medical and research experiments.

I think that people like Vick who fight and torture dogs, chickens, and other animals should be sentenced to death. If they are capable of barbaric acts like that, who knows when they will turn on their fellow man and do the same?

Animals are defenseless and at the mercy of human beings. I try to choose the high road and show them kindness when I can.
