IMAGINE BILL GATES IN A WHITE HAT

Reuters Friday, November 14, 1997 at 16:29

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov 14 (Reuters) - Intel Corp said on
Friday it released software to fix a potentially serious flaw
with its Pentium and Pentium MMX computer chips.
Earlier this week, Intel discovered a design error that
would allow a malicious programmer to freeze the operations of
a personal computer or network server. Because of a potential
security threat, the flaw raised concerns among some customers.
Intel said it worked with software vendors, including
Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT), on "an accelerated timeline" to create a software "patch" that blocks exploitation of the flaw.
Computer users concerned about the bug would have to
contact their operating system vendor -- primarily, Microsoft
-- to get the patch, said Tom Waldrop, Intel spokesman.
Three years ago, Intel was widely ridiculed for a Pentium
bug that returned wrong answers for some arithmetic problems.
Since then, the company has moved quickly to fix any new flaws
that are discovered.

Gene - Re: " Infoworld article on Jan 1 price cuts. Real aggresive!"

I wonder what Intel will say to the FTC when asked why their (Intel's) price cuts are so agressive?

"Yields are GOOD - we're passing the benefits along to our customers!"
