Ken, I am not following AMAT but have heard others discuss it as a short. Perhaps someone else will comment.

Kenneth, RE: AMAT. IMO, this is not a good short. AMAT reports earnings on Nov 21st, and I wouldn't be surprised if, during the conference call, they said everything is OK! Asia is a problem, but it has already been factored into the price. Most of Asia has been buying capital equipment in dollars and selling semiconductors in dollars - so this may have less of an impact then some people think.

In July, someone asked about shorting AMAT at $65 (per split). AMAT ran to over $100! Hopefully, this person followed my advice: exchange2000.com

I sold at $97 and am now considering a new long position.
Regards, Bill

Kenneth, RE: AMAT. Earnings are excellent! No problems in Asia - next year will see 35% revenue growth - all systems go! Even MF Befumo (a notorious AMAT skeptic) is impressed: fool.yahoo.com

This is excellent news for an oversold sector.
