Vince,

What new fabs did mu and intc put on the "back burner"?

You do realize intc picked up dec's fab, and they "converted" the other plant in the recent announcement.intc also said they do not expect to spend less than 4.5 billion next year in new fabs or improvements.

If you are right that the various chip companies that are amat's customers, not just txn, intc, etc, are not motivated to "update their equipment", how much of a lag do you expect?

TIA

Vince,

Re - "When I managed a fab. for Nat Semi. we had salesmen calling everyday trying to sell us new equipment. We always asked the same thing; "What does it buy us." Usually the answer was; "Nothing.""

As an ex fab manager, would enjoy hearing your opinion of the 300mm wafer size and how this will affect AMAT and the industry.

When will it happen and will manufacturers have to go to it quickly to be competative?

thanks,

Lee
