I had a neighbor once whose wife died of cancer leaving him with 3 young children. Certainly a sad story. But---The bread winner was still the bread winner. The story is completely different in military families. The male is almost always the bread winner, and he is the one that dies early. The wife and mother's career (if she has one) is stunted because of constant moves. The survivor Social security payment gives these kids a chance at a normal life. Do you object to that?
