Nov14/97 The mayor of Faro says Anvil Range has been able to raise some of the money it needs to continue operating. Jim MacLachlan doesn't have a dollar figure but he says it's less than the $25-$30 million dollars the company needs. Rumours have been rampant in the community that the mine is about to announce it has been able to find enough investment dollars to continue operating. The Yukon's government leader says he's aware of what's happening but it's not his place to say. (McDonald) "We are very optimistic and we expect the company will be making its announcement soon as to what it has done to secure financing." Piers McDonald will only say it's the company's show and they'll be in a position to speak for themselves but he acknowledges that he has put together a budget for the territory for the next 12 months on the assumption the mine will be open.
