Environment is overrated. Amazon indians are not the most clever people in this planet. Neither the longest living people.

And they get oxigen like hell!

What happened was that Industrial Revolution pioneers had to deal with the technology and materials they had available.

As new materials and technologies were discovered, they implemenent better means of producing stuff.

Voilá! Today we have clean development.

Now let me tell you what happened: kids do like to work too much. They are also very easily influenced.

They started enrolling in the worng courses at the university. And engaging in careers that they -mistakenly- thought they will earned a living at the same time being virtuous.

That was their downfall. They starrted becoming marine biologists and the politicians had to provide them pseudo-jobs.

Industry embarked in the bandwagon calling themselves green and pretty soon even clever people like you and Black Swan started believing that was reality.

It is all about Money. Greenpace large portfolio of shares.

Greenpace owns a large portfolio of shares in companies that share their ideals, and a number of biotechnology patents also have been gifted to them.

As you can see here, Greenpeace has a commercial interest in the virtuous goals of their organization.

An start up give a share opf its business to Greenpeace and Greenpeace goes about trashing any existing competing business.

Publicity? They got it free fo charge. This is done by publicity stunts to get free coverage in the media.

Investors have a benefit:

if an individual donates securities held long-term to a “public” charity, such as a church, educational institution, health care organization, or other cause, the amount he or she can claim as a charitable gift for federal income tax purposes is the securities’ fair market value on the date of the gift. See Internal Revenue Code section 170(b)(1)(A).
