But because it is government, they can't get off dead center to do it. You have 75,000 post offices, most of which are totally unnecessary structures containing, of all things, a "Postmaster" making 75k/year to do nothing (you cut cut the number in half without materially affecting service). A plain old letter carrier makes 55K + benefits & an impressive pension and works banker's hours and has no responsibility to speak of. It is, of course, a dying business. Because they have totally failed to do anything to keep it alive. Did they ever even THINK of trying compete? What a bad example of good government.
