It is a perfect example of government bloat. You ever send a letter with a "tracking number"? They have no idea where your stuff is. With or without a tracking number.

It is easy to think of 100s of ways to make the operation more efficient. But because it is government, they can't get off dead center to do it. You have 75,000 post offices, most of which are totally unnecessary structures containing, of all things, a "Postmaster" making 75k/year to do nothing (you cut cut the number in half without materially affecting service). A plain old letter carrier makes 55K + benefits & an impressive pension and works banker's hours and has no responsibility to speak of.

It is, of course, a dying business. Because they have totally failed to do anything to keep it alive. Did they ever even THINK of trying compete?

What a bad example of good government.
