Cath is wrong - there are elections and the Greens have their electorally determined number of representatives. <Environment and Conservation Organisations spokeswoman Cath Wallace said the public was not given a chance to comment on the licence, and public protest was the only option available.

The Government was accommodating overseas oil interests while ignoring New Zealanders' views, she said.

Tradable Citizenship voting would better decide whether oil exploration and production is a good idea.

They watched TV about the well failure last year and believed it was a disaster, which it wasn't, other than the actual destruction of the well, platform and deaths of the people involved. Also, it was obviously not going to be a huge environmental contamination, with a bit of effort to understand ocean currents in the Gulf of Mexico, Stoke's law, the action of microbes on oil and the action of sun and heat and water and waves and wind.
