The exogenous forces to which Jesse refers are a group of countires that might join together to repudiate the dollar, thereby giving us a bout of hyperinflation.

I think, like Jesse, that this is unlikely because the only countries that would be able to do so are huge holders of dollars and would be shooting themselves in the foot. It is an unlikely outcome. What I think is more likely is the recycling of USD into gold reserves.
