Are there certain "foods" we should avoid?

In all the discussions I have read, the only point was to avoid supplements.

How about limiting those foods that are fortified with calcium or that have calcium naturally occurring in them?

Fortified foods are a real problem, generally. Vitamin A is the most dangerous, I think, because you can OD on vitamin A. Multiple vitamin and mineral pills and combo pills are also problematic. I saw my opthamologist last week and she chastised me for not taking the combo supplement she had previously recommended because I have a family history of macular degeneration. I told her it was because it contained lots of vitamin A. As it turns out, they now also offer a version without the vitamin A so the producer apparently was sensitized to the problem but that's not usually the case.

Also, when foods are fortified, they often use the cheapest and least useful version of the ingredient. All the more reason to avoid processed foods altogether.

Here's an example of the fortification attitude: "Calcium—we all need it and probably don’t get enough of it. "
