They where not small (as I said they where not small in an absolute sense), they where only small (in terms of improving the fiscal balance of the federal government) relative to the economic growth at the time, and the relative restraint on spending growth.

There where also not "hugely successful", they where slightly harmful. Not admittedly as harmful as some of the opponents claimed they would be, but that was because the economy was stronger (in growth terms, not in absolute or per capita wealth terms) then. Imposing them in a weaker economic situation would be more harmful.

How about lets bring back fiscal responsibility and accountability. The gov't doesn't need more money to waste, they need to cut spending.
