What happened to that decrepit wind farm in the South Point area? It's been 9 years since we were in the area, but I'm sure the wind hasn't stopped blowing.
And it seems that geothermal has potential there - plenty of hot lava underfoot.
It is silly and expensive to depend on diesel generators, like some third world island<g>. At least you don't need a lot of heating and AC (at least not on the east side of the island).

Hawaii probably has too expensive land for large scale solar, but roof top solar should be thriving with those utility costs.

You'd think they would figure a way to harness some of that volcanism you guys got going on... BTW Hawaii on my short list for next couple of vacations :O)
