I didn't really have too much of a complaint about the CFLs until recently. I do consider it absurd that there are state and federal mandates to move away from incandescent bulbs and to CFLs.

But I was expecting a lot better performance from these things. I have a three bulb ceiling lamp that I recently put three CFLs in. Recently being about 3 months ago. Two of the three bulbs have already started flickering and dimming. So much for long life CFLs
