<<... China prefers wage price inflation to currency appreciation, because wage price inflation redistributes wealth to the peasants, since inflation is primarily food ... the result is the same as a currency appreciation: higher prices of imported goods in the US, and gradual improvement of the US trade balance>>

... i suppose on the usa side of the pond the result would be the same, in that imported stuff from china would cost more.

on china side of the pond the results would be somewhat nuanced, depending on what object we care to focus on (i.e. consumption vs investment vs savings vs property and commodity prices vs gold n silver, etc etc.

to the extent that china in aggregate 'chooses' to bid up, the china import price would rule global prices.

<<Trump is the leading candidate among the Republican base>>

... that is simultaneously funny and tragic, but not so much alarming, because trump is a cretin wastrel human slug and cannot affect the weather of civilization.

as to <<... He wants to impose a 25% duty on ALL Chinese imports immediately. The Republican base loves it. Its financiers are somewhat alarmed. Sounds worse than Schumer, the darling of the Democratic base. So now both bases are in agreement on at least one issue. Who would have thought>>

... i can see how a 25% duty on all chinese imports would help america immensely <g>.

what does trump and schumer believe? that americans would start to make socks and manufacture gadgets? detroit would come alive? cleveland would stop demise? t-bills would get more of a bid?

what? well, we shall find out, bring it on, once the cretins make a move that the slugs agree with.

the trouble with the trumps, schumers, and palins of this world is that they have no belief in family values, zero faith in savings, no concept of diligence, and they represent the worst of america, surely.

where are the american leaders?

In any case, the result is the same as a currency appreciation: higher prices of imported goods in the US

A subsidy to low income types means export prices stay the same.., politically makes government look benevolent... whereas increase in wages will eventually need be passed along in export price... so I see your point ... They should send out cheques :O)

Shanghai Cuts Fees for Truckers Following Strike, Xinhua Says

Inflation and Shanghai’s Trucker Strike
businessinsider.com

When profit margins get squeezed — either due to price controls or just the uneven adjustment path of inflation — and companies can’t pass higher costs along to consumers, they start looking for ways to push costs down onto suppliers — particularly more vulnerable ones, like truckers. I suspect, but can’t prove, that’s probably part of what we’re seeing. Besides complaining about the fuel price hike, truckers have been complaining about new fees that have been imposed on them (to cover the port’s and logistic operators’ higher costs, no doubt) as well as the fact that their wages haven’t kept pace with the rising cost of living.
