I'm not sure what legal ramifications you are imagining. All iPhone users have given Apple the right to collect their location data. The recent developments might be embarrassing to Apple as far as how sloppy they have been in protecting sensitive user information, but it's not like the collection itself was on the sly.

Fortunately for me, my phone doesn't maintain a history of my location with date and time stamps.
