I was trying to get in touch with an SGI local sales office, found the US sales 800 number from their website, called it up, the machine disconnected me automatically after promising to find a local office for me, couldn't even get a chance to speak with a real person. So I went to Sun.

I hope some SGI folks are reading this board. Your company is still nothing even if you have the best products but don't know how to sell them or don't bother selling them!!!

"SGI is going to dominate the NT workstation market. Enough said."

Whoa! I am a relentless SGI booster, but I am not so confident. SGI's worst problem is marketing. How is SGI going to go up against powerhouses like Compaq -- organizations whose marketing skills have been honed to razor edges by a marketplace with thin margins and terrific competiton? SGI first has to master a new business model of:

1. Thin margins
2. Big volumes
3. Competitive marketing
4. Developing a high-quality "orphan" machine on an unfamiliar NT platform

Each task my itself is a big and potentially insurmountable change in this company. My best hope is to see them snatch a chunk of the high-end workstation and server market. That should be enough to see solid growth for SGI. I have become humble. But I'll tell you, 17 is far from my favorite number! --JD

JC: I agree with you. SGI may very well dominate the NT
workstation market for reasons that are obvious to anyone
who follows this company.

My question is: How does this help their stock price?

So far my comments have been centered on SGI's -stock- which
is a separate commodity in itself. Once you start talking about
-products- boosting SGI's stock price, you're talking fundementals,
which may or may not correlate into a higher stock price.
