Speedy, it is one strategy to use when your opinion is that the stock needs to base and is not going to explode within a given period. Or, if you feel that the stock might retest the lows before moving up. Writing covered calls only expose the future up potential, if you were wrong, to cover the call or buy back the stock. I have been wrong more than once and went through the process, on the average, you still add a good 10 to 20% to the portofolio performance. Of course, you try to the best you can to time these action to the peaks of a trading range and cover on break outs.
