vireya, this won't help you now but here is what I do: make image with Acronis, restore image to 2. HD partition. Test by booting from 2. HD partition.

That way I'd find out before I need it if the restore worked.

Except if the mother board gets fried - then I'd buy a new PC and install the 2. HD in it.

If you encounter a failed restore in True Image, it wipes out your C: partition, leaving you with a dead computer.

That happened to me once, and I had to reinstall Windows and create new partitions, then restore.

If your MB is fried, nothing is going to help you. If you can get a new MB, then try a restore again, being it's the same MB as the old one, but you will have to fix the partitions.

I am not too sure of restoring images to other hardware, although people said it can be done, I never tried.

I store my images on an external USB hard drive, and I never use safemode, cause that won't see my external drives, I have to start True Image in full version mode. I use True Image from the factory boot CD.

Don't be mad at acronis if the hardware is damaged. Nothing will help you until it is repaired. I feel your pain. I had lightning take out mine a few years ago.

I wonder if the file you are trying to restore is corrupt. A few time when I try to create an image using acronis I get the error message that the file is corrupt. It is for this reason I use more than one image as a backup.

Once you get through this nightmare, I would suggest that you check on EaseUS at easeus.com You can get their free imaging program. Yes, it's free. I installed in on my notebook and it works just fined.

However, I would also suggest that you look into their paid version as it has additional features.

Acronis TI is a piece of "junk" IMO. It's bloated with features that have nothing to do with backing up or creating images. In someways, it causes more problems then it solves. These are my opinions.
