<A> Ericsson Wakes Up And Smells The Internet (11/13/97; 2:45 p.m. EST) By Jeff Caruso, InternetWeek

Ericsson, in an effort to help develop products for wireless Internet access, opened on Wednsday a testbed for projects by Ericsson and other companies called CyberLab.

Product ideas will be funneled to Ericsson's 20 other divisions, though company officials said they are still figuring out how that process will work. CyberLab, in Menlo Park, Calif., will also be a base for communicating with key partners and developers of Internet-based products.

"We will have a number of smaller, independent initiatives under the Ericsson umbrella," said Staffan Lindholm, general manager of Internet services at Ericsson, in San Francisco. "They may not be well-coordinated, but at least we will be able to move quickly."

Among the initiatives under way are an access router for ADSL and IP telephony products, he said.

The company is also developing equipment to connect wireless networks directly to the Internet, instead of going through the traditional phone networks as they do today. In such a network, voice becomes secondary, company officials said.

Ericsson's wireless plans met with some skepticism. "Ericsson is betting a lot on access to the Internet via wireless," said Ray Jodoin, senior analyst at In-Stat. "It's still unclear how much that will happen."

This is NOT true. Here you are a downside HYPER. Who says that only the posts having upside speculation can be labeled as hype. You are a hyper just like everybody else except you do it on the downside. Think about it Steve.

Stevie G,
What is hype is Always a subjective question. This comment is futile. I think your posts in WCII are at least the "hype" of some of the people's you have labeled here. Just my opinion though...but you know what, thats all there is (people's opinions).

<< This thread, however, is often beyond hype, and even beyond being a formal Amati
commercial. The soapbox evangelism fairly common here has been noted on a
number of other SI threads as well as in electronic newsprint. >>

Wake up. Hello. You are part of the thread. :-) You post way more than I and I think I am part of the thread. You are the man in the IBM Web commercial that says, "I don't know how to do that." you don't get that many people here are in AMTX the same way you are in highly priced WCII...bc you believe in it to perform over a certain time frame. Seems we all make this board what we want. I have read a great deal of boards on SI and many people in the Cymer, ASND, Intel, and other threads blow this place away for optimism. :-)

then again, thats just today. :-)
