Correction I have 2011.

Can you tell me what your naming looks like?

And what exact scheme are you using for backups? I know they have a self management system - where they create a full, then incrementals and after a while do a self cleaning.

I like the method I described and you are using. Just the naming is off. The main difference though ... on the XP as stated, I manually move things where the notebook backs up over the network to the XP and I never do any house keeping.

I may need to dig deeper and see if fact a defrag is occurring.

so you never disconnect your external drive when youre not backing up?
