Larry you said...3. Yes, in order to make money on a stock (long or short) you have to close your position (shorts will have to buy to cash in). The exception is that if a stock is delisted, shorts don't have to cover. Much as I hate to say it, now I am glad the shorts are here. They will help to put a floor on the stock.

Actually playing short you can use the funds as long as you keep the required margin in your account...

ex: short sell 4000 shares at $6 you get 24,000 credited to your account. you need to keep 12000 of your own money to start. if the price goes to $3 you need 12000 to buy back + 6000 to cover the margin. So youu now have 18000 that you can access without ever closing your position....provided the price doesn't go up.....................keepp in mind if it goes upp from the start be ready to shell out more cash.......and fast or your position will be closed for yoou at a higer price, therefore a loss to you
