A "dead cat bounce" is when a stock has fallen drastically on bad news and then bounces upwards in price due to short covering and bottom fishers.

Harvardd. Even a "dead cat" will "bounce"
when it hits the ground hard enough!

This phrase is used to describe the upward move-
ment a stock like SGI might experience after it
has been slammed hard.

Short covering, bottom fishing, cost averaging,
you name it, will make SGI's stock chart-up for
a while.

Don't be fooled tho, this cat is DEAD.
