To continue the Investor Vs Speculator discussion, there was an interesting discussion in Barron's a few weeks ago, wherein the author compared the current stock market to "Collectibles". In my opinion, with the price to book of 5 on the S&P, this analogy was on the mark:
He said that stocks were now like baseball cards. You can buy one for a thousand dollars and anticipate selling it next year for two thousand, but you have to remember, it's still just a piece of cardboard with printing on it.
