Gerald; What happens to a short position if the company is taken over in a share exchange. He must cough up by the due date. If the 26 day clock started on such a thing on monday all the short would be seriously squeezed. The forever would have a wall.

It might happen.

In addition if the borrowed shares are called on, he must find alternate sources. If he cannot he is squeezed.
