Before I left LA, I used to talk up downtown LA's potential. Peoples' reaction.....downtown is as dead as a doornail and is never coming back. Ten years later:

City Life: Rediscovering downtown L.A.

Downtown Los Angeles: A once-deserted city center is coming to life again after years of neglect. Credit the revival to a boom in city living, lively new arts and entertainment venues and events such as the Art Walk that are drawing thousands of curious new visitors and locals back to what was the premier theater district and commercial hub in the early 1900s.

I've never noticed anyone redeeming food stamps at Costco. I wish I could say the same about my local Kroger's! Seems to be a labored, time consuming, paperwork intensive process..
