Who knows, maybe that paper is no longer made. Maybe the typewriter used back then can't be matched. Maybe there is something special about the print on a blank form. Maybe Obama could only trust Michelle or some other trusted ally to do the job. It has piqued my curiosity.

...or maybe Obama thinks he is punking all of us.

Like you said,

A better forgery and some embarrassing detail included and this goes away. As it is, people will be pondering this for decades ala the grassy knoll with JFK, or the third person at Oklahoma City.

Maybe Obama welcomes the grassy knoll theories. OTOH, we have seen gross stupidities with electronic document releases before. The Army releases a heavily redacted document, with whole sections blacked out...which you can copy and paste into another document where they become legible. The final released version of the UN report on the assassination of Rafik Hariri was considerably toned down...except they forgot (maybe on purpose?) to turn off versioning so the earlier version was still accessible. People are under pressure, so out of sight becomes out of mind.

Maybe Obama's original long form birth certificate is missing or embarrassing, and the White House finally, after three years, was pressured into producing a forgery. It would explain the handling of the lawsuits.
