It's more about change Canadians don't want. Harper has a past as a radical libertarian and his unwillingness to compromise and controlling secretive nature make people fear the changes he might make if given a majority. The abolishing of income trusts that many here will know about has hurt him badly among many who would normally be his supporters.

And the way he bizarrely refuses to divulge the cost of proposed initiatives like building lots more prisons (even while the crime rate is plummeting) and buying expensive new fighter jets has alienated many more. The majority understand that the economy has been strong due primarily to the strong banking regulatory regime established by previous governments, and to the rise in commodity prices.

That said, it will all come down to who votes for which party in which ridings. Turnouts at advance voting were up about 40%, making me question how accurate the polls are this time. It will be interesting to watch the results come in on Monday.
