Excellent idea. I actually got pissed off so many times when I couldn't find a blasted screwdriver that I built a rescue kit. Includes extra drive cables, screws, screwdrivers, and actual CD recovery media. One place - no searching required.

Acronis gives you the ability to make an ISO. Make the ISO, burn the CD for booting but also keep the ISO within the backups, as you say.

but when you "place a copy of my backup software on the same media I use for backup," doesnt that happen when you image the drive?
