MD, I need help, please hear me out. Fact Set 1. (please anyone correct anything fact I have wrong) Mr Obama presented a piece of paper to the press for them to inspect, which he claims is an official copy of his long form birth certificate. [ed. This might be the center of my confusion. What is this piece of paper?] He allowed someone from the AP to scan this document to a pdf file which they posted on the AP web site. No one is disputing that this file is an accurate representation of the piece of paper Mr. Obama supplied to the press. End of Fact Set 1. Set this aside. Fact Set 2. There is another pdf file. It is unclear to me if someone did another scan of the document or began with the one produced by the AP. This seems unimportant. What is important is that someone unknown performed certain obvious manipulations to this document. Obvious to anyone with minimal skills with these kinds of documents. However, when said manipulations were complete, none of the information in any of the form boxes is any different from the PDF in fact set 1. This pdf is available on the WH web site. End of Fact Set 2. Now if we can all agree on the facts of the case we can discuss what it all means. The question seems to me to be why did someone tamper with the pdf in fact set 2 considering they didn't change any of the information on the form with these manipulations. The only answer I can come up with is the WH wants this controversy to continue. It allows the President to be able to roll his eyes, tell America that he has done EVERYTHING he has been asked to do and he is still being persecuted. Poor Poor me. The manipulated pdf is a red hearing.

This is my question: My next question (which I've tried to get answered without success) is where did the AP get the piece of paper that they put into a scanner? And note carefully: AP did, in fact, place a piece of paper into a scanner and published what came out. There is no evidence that AP tampered with the digital representation of what they scanned, while there's plenty of evidence that the White House did, and in fact what the White House produced does not appear to be an actual scan at all but is a created digital document.
