(NEWSER) – A federal appeals court overturned the ban on federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research today in a 2-1 ruling. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that such funding did not violate a 1996 law forbidding the use of federal money for research in which an embryo is destroyed, according to the Wall Street Journal. It’s a significant victory for President Obama, who made lifting George W. Bush’s restrictions on stem cell research funding one of his first acts as president.

Faith may be defined briefly as an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable.

A man full of faith is simply one who has lost (or never had) the capacity for clear and realistic thought. He is not a mere ass; he is actually ill. Worse, he is incurable.

In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for. As for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican.

Fiat could own 70 pct of Chrysler by next year

Fiat could own 70 pct of Chrysler by next year, could buy back US Treasury stake

On Monday May 9, 2011, 5:59 pm EDT

DETROIT (AP) -- Italian automaker Fiat SpA could own more than 70 percent of Chrysler Group within a year once it repays its government loans and exercises other options.

Chrysler spelled out the terms of Fiat's ownership in a filing Monday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Fiat announced last month that it would pay $1.3 billion to increase its stake in Chrysler to 46 percent. Fiat expects to have a 51-percent stake by the end of this year, which would allow it to appoint a majority to Chrysler's board.

In the filing, Chrysler said Fiat also may acquire the U.S. government's 8.6-percent stake in a 12-month period following the repayment of government loans. Chrysler is expected to repay those loans in the second quarter.
