Ahhhhhhhhhhh! What happened to silicon investor!!! it's gone all BLUE! Maybe that configuration change I just completed has screwed up my graphics card? -g-

Deleting the partition with all the boot files on it.

I now only duel boot with Win_XP and Win7. So I had a partition where I used to keep the Win_2k OS on it plus all the boot files. I finally got around to cleaning all that by deleting the partition. I used EasyBCD 2.1 to help me relocate the boot files. I also had a special partition where I used to keep Win_2k and Win_XP application data, so I had to make several hundred changes to the XP registry to enable me to delete that partition too. It came to replacing one text string with another and used this free tool here.

The registry edit ran nice and smoothly, the backup was not needed.

I did image the partitions at several stages during the deletion and consolidation process though, and some of the changes were problematic.

Including consolidating and deleting partitions, it took several attempts using EasyBCD 2.1 and the Windows_7 Repair disk to get the boot files and dual boot up sequence working correctly. If anyone knows of a good reference book or website of how booting, MBR's, etc work from first principles, so I can edit those files directly, I would be interested in reading up more.

The exercise has been completed though and I am just waiting for the final version of everything to be imaged to complete.
