ElM, your memory has gone awol: <Remember freeing Iranian hostages just in time for Reagan be elected? > It was as soon as Reagan took over that a sudden negotiation success was achieved. The Iranians thought "Oh, oh, with Raygun in power, we are going to be in trouble. He's too stupid to do tricky negotiating. He'll just say "Send them back by lunchtime or you are going to get demonstrations of high explosives, up close and personal"." Sure enough, they were free by lunch time.

Reagan was elected BEFORE the hostages were released. They were free before Reagan got his hands on the nuclear suitcase.

Recommendation to Gaddafi; it's game over old chap, better run for the hills. No doubt Gaddafi has observed what happened to Osama and Saddam and is feeling a bit nervous. Note to others of Gaddafi inclinations, don't shoot Yvonne Fletcher, don't bomb airliners, don't bomb Berlin night clubs.

PS: There was a side deal of some arms for hostages....
