As you probably know by now, the Mannings in general are one family that does raise the ave. Chargers' fans' blood pressure... has to do with comments they (Archie, Peyton and Eli) made basically warning San Diego not to draft Eli because he would never sign to play with such a bunch of losers -- or words to that effect.

Of course, SD drafted Eli anyways and then traded him 12 seconds later for Rivers in a pre-arranged deal...

Sounds rough to have grown up where you couldn't express yourself as a fan even in a positive way out of fear of your "neighbors" outside your neighborhood, etc.

I grew up in a small college town and didn't see that sort of thing until I was in my 20s visiting various urban areas in my travels around the country... I had a very sheltered life growing up... helped me hang onto tiny shreds of my optimistic idealism probably much too long for my own good... but I am glad I had such happy-go-lucky days as a kid... I feel lucky.
