Parades and celebrations after a victory, especially involving dishonoring the bodies of the defeated, is an ancient tradition. This behavior is probably hardwired in the chimp or lizard parts of our brain.

Right after 9/11, there were joyful spontaneous celebrations in some parts of the world. Now it's America's turn. What most Americans feel about Osama's death, is precisely the same as what Jihadists felt after 9/11. This is natural, and should be expected, given that we share 97% of our DNA with the other apes, and recent evidence indicates most of us are part Neanderthal:

I agree with you.

He richly deserved what he got.

He was an example of the worst of humanity.

But a violent death should never be celebrated, it is not an occasion that calls for joy.
