OTOH Bob in your system little seems to get done mostly with all the earmarks on proposed legislation.. at least in original form. .. as to Obama and absolute power well not exactly I think.. If a member of ruling party doesn't vote with the PM up here you are likely to be turfed out of the party period, career probably over next election or maybe one more.. Occasionally folks can cross the floor successfully bu even that is tenuous.. In your system Obama may have had a Dem house but they are not obligated to vote his way as I understand it and he cannot turf them out for voting against his wishes .. right ? At any rate Obama has been a huge disappointment.. and our system has holes.. but sometimes we get a guy that gets the right stuff done and nothing stands in his way :O)

One reason PM has that power is that on major issues the vote is a confidence vote... if the measure fails (like the last budget) the government falls.. The PM will at times allow a free vote on issues which are not party policy and not confidence issues.. In theory when elected the government has a mandate to follow through on their platform... of course we are still waiting for Harper to NOT touch income trusts.., procure three armed icebreakers to protect our northern sovereignty.. and reform the senate.. I guess over 5 years is not enough time to even start talking about these things... ooops.. I forgot the income trust promise was already broken... :O)

anyway.. it's more the foreign policy he might pursue and messing with health care..

I cannot speak for most folks but if our elected government manages a 45% margin I'd be satisfied considering our system...

Yeah gas gonna cost you big this summer.. PEI but no Nova Scotia or New Brunswick :O) I preferred NS and NB to PEI.. but that was many many years ago.. Did NB and NS last summer... missed out on NFLD.. hopefully next year..
