did you foresee the 3.8% medicare tax 10-20 years ago ?

My financial people see it as a possibility, so do some of my son's professors .
The pols are desperate for tax revenues, their jobs, family and power depend on it.

they will make some claim only the rich have roths and that will win the day. Remember class warfare is their MO

"They were specifically created as tax free vehicles. "

Sorry, there was no altruism in creating Roth IRAs. They were created to generate a temporary increase in revenue for the government by capturing taxes on conversions.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the bozos in Washington down the road won't turn around and change the tax status on withdrawls from Roth IRAs. When Washington gets serious about the deficit, I would put nothing past them. The Republicans want to cut entitlements, the democrats want to raise taxes. Our dear socialist leader has been pushing raises taxes on the rich even before he was elected. Putting a tax on Roth IRA withdrawals would be easy to position as taxing the rich. Don't delude yourself in thinking that the tax status of Roths will never change
