Isn't a radio beacon based DGPS network operated by Differential Corrections Inc. and Acqpoint already? Here is some news that involves Cue Networks. CUE also distributes real-time differential global position correction data (DGPS) and real-time traffic information over its North American network. The company has been awarded grants from the Federal Highway Administration to install systems in California and Texas. IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- CUE Network Corporation today announced that the company will support Microsoft's new CE platform for hand- held devices. Working in cooperation with ETAK, Inc., a leading provider of digital map data, CUE will provide real-time traffic information in 40 major markets. The service will be distributed to Windows CE devices on a subscription basis over CUE's network of 600 FM stations in North America. Service is expected to commence in the second quarter of 1998. The service, which will use CUE's new FM Card, meets the proposed CompactFlash specification. The messaging services being offered will include voice paging, text paging, e-mail alerts, and voice mail alerts. Gordon Kaiser, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CUE, stated, "Purchasers of Windows CE devices will want real-time traffic information as well as e-mail alerts with notification of subject and sender. People are tired of lugging laptops around just to get e-mail." Kaiser also stated, "This is the first time anyone has provided voice paging over FM subcarrier. The Windows CE device will become the portable answering machine of the future." The voice paging services being introduced by CUE will use CUE's new high speed network across North America using DARC technology. Kaiser stated, "DARC has now become the standard high speed FM subcarrier technology around the world and CUE intends to develop a DARC network across North America." The DARC technology, originally developed by NHK in Japan has now been adopted by a number of European countries. CUE is the first company to employ paging using DARC technology. The paging application of the DARC technology has been jointly developed by CUE and InfoTelecom of Strasbourg, France. CUE provides nationwide and regional messaging throughout North America over the FM subcarrier facilities of more than 600 radio stations. The network provides a seamless footprint covering more than two million square miles and serves over 180,000 subscribers. Distributors of CUE Paging include AT&T Wireless, Ameritech, and MobileMedia. CUE also distributes real-time differential global position correction data (DGPS) and real-time traffic information over its North American network.
