5/13/11 Contest Update Was it Friday the 13th that spooked investors or the thought of Newt Gingrich becoming the Republican presidential nominee? Whatever the reason, despite a down Friday, biotechs actually managed to close the week higher. At Friday’s close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 16.65% YTD (vs. up 14.12% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up 11.81% YTD (vs. up 9.82% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.62% YTD (vs. up 6.58% YTD a week ago). Contest leader MCBIO’s portfolio (up 41.42% YTD) pulled away from the competition, with CRAZYP’s portfolio (up 36.68% YTD) and ROCKY’s portfolio (up 34.52% YTD) in second and third place.. At Friday's close, an impressive 34 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the black with 14 of the 38 beating the high-flying NBI. Below is the Top Ten list.
