Network deals boost WavePhore presence

Data broadcaster WavePhore Inc. has signed two high-profile deals expected to boost its presence in the information delivery market.

Under the first agreement, WavePhore will provide the backbone for a new satellite information and multimedia network for Reuters, one of the world's largest news-gathering organizations.

Using a 256-kilobits-per-second channel supported by WavePhore, Reuters plans to deliver text, images, sound and video clips to customers' computer networks.

WavePhore will handle the technical details, including satellite uplinks, satellite equipment, network management, installation, service and software.

Through its Networks division in Salt Lake City, the Phoenix company has provided other services to Reuters since 1987.

"Our great strength lies in our ability to expand the services we provide as the sophisticated needs of our customers continue to grow," said Mo Gardner, executive vice president and chief operating officer of WavePhore Networks.

In another agreement, WavePhore will provide satellite broadcasting services to Telnor, Norway's government-owned telecommunications giant, broadcasting financial news and stock quotes to more than 500 sites across Europe.

The deal is estimated to be worth $600,000.

WavePhore provides similar data networks for Shenzhen Securities, the People's Republic of China's
largest securities exchange; Agencia Estado, Brazil's largest financial publishing firm, and other
financial information companies in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
