Geez,

Middleswart is a real party pooper!
Please forgive me for correcting some of his INCREDIBLY DISTORTED "facts".If you haven't read the article, he suggests that amat usually trades at around book value, so we should be horrified that it currently trades at 4+x book.

Since 1986, amat has, each year, traded as high as 2x book value, but more recently:

1992 3.3x
1993 5.4x
1994 4.7x
1995 6x
1996 3x
1997 7x

You will find similar multiples to book value in the other companies this analyst discussed.

In 1989 and 1990, amat briefly traded below book value.

Those are the facts.

What can one say that is appropriate about these analysts?

As with the traders, analysts exist to create volitility, which will benefit a good investor over time.
