MF Boring Port holds GNT; Markus comments on fall at fool.com

He discusses at some length the addition to reserves in part of GNT's business portfolio, discusses the possible long term implications. While he concedes that more bad news may be coming out, his analysis is optomistic and bears reading by anyone evaluating this recent air pocket in GNT's chart.

Those following GNT's progress should recall that this is not an addition to loan reserves for bad debt, but a non-cash reserve for anticipated early pre-payment of loans in one portion of their portfolio due to competitors persuading customers to refinance elsewhere.

Looking at the 5-year chart, GNT has come a long way, and is now selling at only 9 times expected earnings for next year. Marcus also reminds us that GNT still has 1.8 million shares left in its buy-back authority, and that when its stock sank early this spring, GNT bought back 3.2 million shares. We might see a similar application of GNT's cash reserves between now and year end.

This may be a buying opportunity for long-term investors.

I thought a rising interest rate envitonment would generally be bad for lenders who have to carry loans at interest rates lower than the current market. Please explain. I've owned GNT and i'm very interested in getting back in.
