Thanks for the info. I thought something was not right if SGI was not involved in the Toy Story project in some way. One irony though, the company made DONATIONS to Pixar is doing ok along with cheap PC producers whereas the company made SELLS to Pixar is gasping for air. Something is not right with this picture either.

Pixar did not buy those SGI boxes. SGI violated Pixar's patent on stochastic dithering and a few other things and SGI gave Pixar a $500K credit towards hardware to settle the suit. Pixar did buy quite a few of those 16 processor shoeboxes that Sun sells for rendering. the compositing of Toy Story was done with Interactive Effects "Amazon" on SGI workstations.
