re AIG - interesting article about AIG (and others) about SEC footnotes. One may not consider this relevant but my take is that those "aspirational" earnings that AIG is raving about in their earnings reports are a real warning sign. Insurance is a number business and it is of uttermost importance that management understands what it is doing. the fact that AIG uses "aspirational in conjunction with earnings implies to me that this is "management by principle hope"

Aspirational Brands. When you think of aspirational brands, you think of Neiman Marcus, Tiffany, and. . . . . AIG? In its recent 600-page 10-Q filing, the largely-government-owned insurance company uses a strange adjective to describe its earnings.
