If you have a restore disk you could do that and return it to factory state. That would wipe your personal stuff unless you really want to make it hard to restore any data. There are plenty of free file erase type programs that will overwrite all the free space on your drive. Since you are donating it to a charity or school, I would think the chances of someone going to the trouble of trying to restore your data is remote. Here's an example of one file wiper.
