A recent report says ANWR has only 876 million barrels

Other reports say a lot more. We don't really know. In any case 876 million barrels is worth over $90bil dollars. Even after subtracting costs its probably over $500mil. Still a valuable resource that should be tapped.

If you are only interested in near term profits, the oil companies thank you.

What short term? It will take years for the oil to start flowing, maybe a decade. Then it will likely flow for decades.

But if you are intending to fool the driving public into thinking gas prices can come down in a month or two... ...it's an even bigger deception if you are trying to say we can drill our way out of foreign oil dependence

Don't try to make arguments for me, or guess what my arguments will be. You'll rarely get it right. I made no statement about oil prices except that they would likely be lower years from now if we develop the ANWR and other sources. Not in a month or two, and not necessarily a lot lower.

As for energy independence is a silly idea. I believe in international trade, free markets, and taking advantage of comparative advantage, not trying to wall off national markets with each country supplying what it needs for itself.

RE:"A recent report says ANWR has only 876 million barrels....not the 22 billion oil companies tout.... "

A smoke screen. You really think oil companies would blow the money on getting a little oil?

You've just come up with a new argument for opening up ANWR. If there's only a pittance of oil there, the oil companies won't bother going after it .... no ban is necessary.
