Yes, unfortunately, conflict is likely to increase. In the last 50 years, there has been a massive increase in total global wealth. But huge numbers of people have been left out and abandoned. There are 1-2 billion people in the world, who are chronically hungry, and who have no stake in the existing order of society. Higher food and fuel prices steadily make them more desperate. Such alienated angry people look to extreme and violent political/social solutions. This is going to get steadily worse. The revolutions in the Arab world are just the beginning.
