In the category of FWIW, I've seen a similar situation unfold before my eyes with the same outward appearance as this.

In the case I saw, the two founders of the company who were technical geniuses lacked the business acumen to make a go of the company. They quickly burned through all capital they had raised without being aggressive about getting a product to market and getting revenue flowing. When they finally sought business help and additional capital, they ended up having to give up control of the company. Long story short, within three years, one was out the door, while the other lasted 10 years in a strictly technical role. Both would eventually resign from the board, but I assume they were forced to. They both did extremely well with their stock which they sold over time, but there were no doubt hard feelings.

The question of his health was raised in the conference call, which they refused to respond to. From the way it was handled by Smith and Marcelli however, I'm assuming that is the issue. I sure hope he's all right.
